If you like trucks, Sunday, October 25 is a good day to be in Brentwood. The Big Rigz Hammerdown "Show & Shine" brings big rigs, trophies, raffles and food to Suffolk County Community College, and it does it for a good cause. We're not running the show, but we love what it stands for, and we're collecting food for our own dealerships' drive here at Toyota of Massapequa too.

What you'll see

This is a show-and-shine, which means the trucks are the stars. Expect polished big rigs, chrome that catches the sun and owners who are happy to talk about their builds. There are trophies for the standouts, raffles through the day and food on site, so it works as a family outing, not just a day for gearheads.

The cause behind it

Truckers for Turkeys is about feeding people. Bring canned goods, frozen turkeys or other non-perishable food, and it goes to Long Island Cares, the Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank, which supports families across Long Island. Cash donations are accepted too. The event's own line sums it up: trucks make a brighter tomorrow.

Our food drive in Seaford

Closer to home, Toyota of Massapequa is part of our dealerships' Annual Food Drive, led again this year by Dennis O'Donnell. We have a collection box in our Seaford showroom for dry goods and canned goods through Thursday, October 22, 2026, and it's picked up Friday, October 23.

Pasta, rice, cereal, canned soup, canned vegetables and peanut butter are all great choices. Check the dates before you bring them in, and leave fresh and frozen food for the truck show, where frozen turkeys are welcome.

For the truck people

If you drive a Tundra or a Tacoma, you already know the appeal of a truck that looks as good as it works. The rigs at the Hammerdown take that to another level. Swing by, enjoy the show and bring something for the food bank on your way in. It's a good Sunday all around.

Planning your day at the show

The show runs six hours, so there's no need to rush. Coming earlier usually means easier parking and a better look at the trucks before the crowd builds. Bring your donation with you so you're not making a second trip, wear comfortable shoes, and plan on grabbing lunch there. If you have kids who love big trucks, this is the kind of day they'll talk about for weeks.

Easy donations to grab on your way

If you're heading to Brentwood from Seaford or anywhere on the South Shore, it's easy to stop at the grocery store on the way. Canned vegetables, canned soup, pasta, rice, peanut butter and boxed cereal are all simple, useful choices. If you want to bring a frozen turkey, keep it in a cooler bag until you hand it off. And if you'd rather not shop at all, the show takes cash donations for Long Island Cares as well.

Why a truck show for a food bank?

Truckers spend their days moving the things the rest of us depend on, groceries included. Truckers for Turkeys turns that around and puts the trucking community to work for families who don't have enough to eat. It's a fitting idea, and it gives everyone a fun reason to show up and give.
